What’s he been up to?
Welcome back to the Club Chair Bulletin, my fortnightly scrapbook, this week I bring milsurp, skincare, and thoughts on dressing for spring/summer
Small Favour: If you wouldn’t mind, please share this post, or the club as a whole, with a friend who you think might be interested, it would mean a whole lot. Please also subscribe if you haven’t yet, again, it makes a big difference.
I’d like to make a brief apology in regard to the irregularity of the previous two bulletins, school got in the way and of course that takes priority, however, things have cleared up now so we ought to be back to Wednesdays, as originally intended.
The temperature is creeping up where I am, so I’m starting to consider some summer outfits. I have, in the past, rather struggled to dress for summer, in relation to my style of dress prior to recent changes. As such, this marks the first summer for which I am actually excited to dress. The recent acquisitions section will reveal a bit more.
Recent Acquisitions
Greek Army M43
I was in dire need of a spring coat, my go-to in previous years no-longer befitting my style or making me feel good when I wore it. Sometimes the obvious answer is the best, so I looked to the classic field jacket, whilst it would have been nice to pick up an original American example, this 80s Greek reproduction was far kinder to my wallet.
I’ve worn it a whole lot since getting it, I still technically practise my one overcoat only rule, only with a consideration made toward keeping coats appropriate for all seasons.
A light coat is sadly a necessity in the UK, I am writing now on a day when 17 degree pleasantry was rudely interrupted by a thunderstorm, this ought to serve me well against the spring/summer showers.
Vintage Lee Khaki Shorts
I’ve also picked up some vintage pleated shorts, in a light stone/ beige. A staple that was absent from my wardrobe, and that will see plenty of use in the coming months
.
On the Radar
Three Recommendations
80s Hilfiger Shirts - Someone came into my work the other day in a fantastic shirt, excellent drape and lovely, large collar. They kindly let my know that it was 80s Tommy Hilfiger. Hilfiger’s fall from grace in Europe and the UK has kept them out of my searches up until now, but I’m definitely keeping an eye out for vintage shirts from now on.
Malin + Goetz Face Travel Essentials - After neglecting a restock for a little while, my skincare assortment is back at full strength. The core of which is these two little bottles that they sell as a bundle. I just buy that pack, 30ml in each lasts me a good couple months. Big picture perhaps the larger volumes are more economical, but the smaller bottles keep my dosage sparing and my routine portable. The moisturiser is water based, which suits me well, they’re both pleasantly gentle products, beautifully packaged, and effective.
Oyster Mushroom Tacos - My go-to green grocer has had oyster mushrooms recently, and I’ve been using them to make some very satisfying meat-free meals. Whilst I’m not a full-practising vegetarian, I am avoiding cooking meat at home right now, and this is my favourite substitution. Sear them off in oil and then add a little soy sauce, regardless of the cuisine, from there you don’t need me to tell you how to turn them into tacos, but definitely make your own tortillas.
Coming Soon
I’m looking forward to putting out some more warm-weather oriented writings, I’ll perhaps look to revisit my some-what seasonal layering series with some ideas for late spring/ early summer soon. Next week I have something I’ve been talking about, and working on for a little while, a guide which I think the internet is lacking currently.
I have a lot more time now, so I’m hoping to deliver some longer pieces, some deeper dives and I’m looking, just I have with this bulletin, to level up the visual presentation of the club as a whole.
The Turntable
To close, spinning this week has been the 2019 self-titled from Rachael & Vilray. A wry-smile wearing, retro jazz record which makes for very enjoyable listening whilst not taking itself too seriously, look to “Let’s Make Love on This Plane” as a key example.
This record harkens back to the age when jazz was the main entertainment music, an album which revels in its derivation.
Thanks for reading this week, I hope to see you at the next meeting, it’s an exciting one.
