What’s he been up to?
I tested out a slightly different approach to the meetings last week, moving towards featuring a pair of shorter topics, as opposed to one that’s more drawn out. I’ve found it to be pretty good on my end, I can be a touch more to-the-point, whilst still putting out a volume of work each week which I feel makes it worth reading, I’d appreciate any feedback in this respect.
I am also continuing to build up a comprehensive database of the many Polo trouser cuts through the 90s and 00s, the similarities and differences between them. Expect a full article soon, though considering the focus of last week I’ll probably wait a little longer, so as to more evenly distribute the pants talk. Again, if you own a pair of Polo pants with a named cut, please get in touch, any insight means a whole lot.
Recent Acquisitions
Polo in red, and a new sport coat
Colour is a recent development in my wardrobe, if I’m honest, for a long while I’d sat quite comfortably in a world of earth tones, but as things progress, I’ve grown quite fond of introducing strong blues and reds. I’ve picked up a red polo cap, and a rugby shirt, both on Vinted. I think of red, weirdly, as a sort of neutral, it has a way of going with most other colours, so having it in accessories is welcome.
I’ve also acquired a new sport coat to replace one I already had, grey herringbone, the new one fits a whole lot better, has patch pockets and a single vent, more in line with the American jacket style which is really my preference. It’s still not a proper sack, they are rather difficult to come by this side of the pond, but it still fills the role nicely. I think there’s an interesting question there in relation to what we consider to be authenticity within collegiate styles, is it the ownership of exact pieces, or a following of an ethos?
In regard to replacing pieces, it’s a particular facet of my current experience, as I continue to develop my knowledge, I paint over my previous miss-steps, and I think that’s ok, as long as the old pieces find their way back into circulation.
Three Recommendations
Funkstille Skin Contact - Picked this up on recommendation, a super drinkable, affordable orange wine, well worth getting a bottle as the warmer weather approaches.
Primitive x Kikkoman - A couple of years ago Primitive put together a brilliant collaboration with Kikkoman soy sauce, I found one of their dad caps on Vinted the other week. Have a little look for some of these bits starting to show up second hand
Proper Good Prints - Some of these can be a bit kitsch, but there’s definitely a few gems in there, particularly like their Oysters print.
The Turntable
Song recommendation this week comes from a favourite artist of mine, Stranger by Dijon is an infectiously catchy tune, particularly that guitar part. A nice one to put on in the car/ for a walk.
Thanks for reading today, please join the club if you haven’t already, next meeting will be Friday next week as usual.
